Today Jacob went to the track at Penlan, Brecon, to compete in the Powys schools athletics championship. Last year he won the hammer and discus, and came 2nd in the shot (http://www.christcollegebrecon.com/archive1112/Oustanding_achievements_by_pupils_at_the_Powys_Schools_Athletics_Championships.php). This year they were only allowed to enter two events. I jumped on the bike and went to watch.

Hammer was first and he won again. He’s had lots of no throws lately as he goes for longer distances. So this time the routine was to get a safe throw in so there’s a result on the board, then go for something bigger. He won with his safety throw at 21m, the next one hit the cage and the last one was around 42m but was out of the sector – so no throw. But at least the tactics worked.

Discus was next and he won that too – so he’s Powys Champion in two events. His first throw was about 29m, second was a no throw and third was 33m.

While we were there he was given a medal for holding the U15 Louise Arthur League record with a throw of 41.43m last year.

Another trophy to add to his growing pile!
