Mynydd Fforest

We went for a short walk up to Mynydd Fforest today, the sun was beating down and the views were amazing. We’ve never been up to the trig point at the top before which has a plaque on it that says it’s at 400m. You get a brilliant view of the Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons and Black Mountain. My camera couldn’t really do it justice. We’ll have to go back with a better one.

There were some white ponies grazing just down from the summit (it’s not much of a summit, just a big mound). You could also see the damage done by the LPG pipeline. It might look green from a distance but there’s a wide band about 10m across with nothing but marsh grass growing on it.

There are also a few places with what look like earthworks, but I can’t find any mention of them on the web. It looks like a big defensive ditch and then some flint mining or similar, next to it. Which doesn’t make much sense. Maybe we’ll have a return visit and explore a little more.
