An X-ray analogue

After Cosford it looked like we needed the X-ray and Gamma section improving in the EM spectrum workshop. This has always been a bit of a problem area. Gamma you can cover under the guise of radioactivity but X-rays are trickier.

The IOP has some resources: http://www.iop.org/education/teacher/resources/teaching-medical-physics/page_54690.html

But while playing about I tried putting an IR filter in front of thermochromic sheet. Behind the filter (which you can’t see through) I put a pair of pliers.

Thermochromic sheet is from here: http://www.mindsetsonline.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=548
IR filter is from here: http://www.mindsetsonline.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=1009572

Bingo…using the power of the sun I took an “X-ray”! (Of course it wasn’t an X-ray at all….)
