Right pudding

It seems that a plum pudding atom model wouldn’t be worth the effort. So we’ll leave it at making a Rutherford atom and a plate for the plum pudding model and I might experiment with something like this when I’ve got time:

Atom

This would be a cheap bit of plastic where students would roll little balls – possibly the plastic BBs you get for toy guns – down a ramp and see what happens. There would be a Thomson and a Rutherford version. If they’re vacuum formed from thin sheet a class set might be very inexpensive. I’ll have to make a wooden former first…but this isn’t looking like one for the workshop.

I have seen a little mini-golf course during a science festival illustrating different types of nuclear models. They could also be made into “black boxes” by covering the interaction area.
