Out the door at 0900 and off the Lucton for James to play in a rugby tournament. It was a fun day, but English rules didn’t suit the Brecon side. There were loads of kids of all ages from the minis sections from all over, from both Wales and England. James put in some great effort, made some big runs, tackles and rips but it just didn’t come together for Brecon today.
James played both prop and hooker in the different matches. He hasn’t thrown in line-outs before, so that was a new one on him. They also haven’t contested scrums and as soon as they got the hang of it the Brecon front row was almost unbeatable. They played four games all together, drew one and lost 3.
I think the ripping was the problem. Our boys were far more used to going for the man and making the tackle and not ripping the ball and not protecting it when they had it. It was a good experience though, ready for next year when they have to play with these rules as well.
